One of the most frequently asked questions we get when speaking with potential customers is how CorePlan's Drilling Hub software works alongside the other systems they are using.

In this blog, I’ll answer the commonly asked questions about CorePlan’s integration capabilities and explain how you can create your own seamless digital ecosystem using CorePlan as the central data capture platform.

What types of integrations are available?

There are four different types of integrations available to CorePlan users:

  • direct integration
  • API integration
  • webhook integration
  • .csv integration.

If you haven’t worked with integrations before, here is a quick overview of what each type means.

Direct integration

This is where CorePlan’s software architecture has been built specifically to work with other software. For example, Garmin inReach integration is already built into the platform so your supervisors can log into CorePlan and view your field team’s location and messages recorded on their Garmin inReach device without having to log into their separate Garmin account every time they want to run a quick check of the data.

API integration

API integration is a type of connection that allows two different software platforms to talk to one another. The connection allows users to add, edit, delete or retrieve data between platforms.

Webhook integration

Webhooks are a one-way connection that allows you to push data from one software platform to another. This is done automatically by performing an action that sets off a trigger. Webhooks are very common and you’ve probably used them many times before, for example if you’re using an accounting package that notifies you when your client has paid a bill, that’s a webhook.

.CSV or excel file-based integration

This type of integration involves manual file downloads and uploads between two software systems by a user.

One of the things our customers love about CorePlan is that they have complete ownership over all of the data they collect using the platform. This is able to be exported at any time using the import/export data function in their project settings menu bar.

PS: It’s also possible to import holes or overwrite existing holes using a .csv file, or import plods (currently in beta testing) from this menu.

After downloading data from CorePlan, you may need to edit the file using MS Excel or Google Sheets to prepare it for use in the other software. Whilst this may require a bit of manual handling on the users’ end, what’s great about it is that you can do just about anything with the data without having to have an understanding of software development or coding.

Integration use cases: how are drilling companies using CorePlan’s integration capabilities?

Accounting and payroll

Many drilling companies use accounting packages like MYOB or Xero to run their invoicing and pay their staff. CorePlan can be easily configured to work directly with both.

Our customer success team work closely with each new customer to configure their back-end settings to make sure all of the cost codes so that you can directly import proformas generated in CorePlan by rig or by hole into MYOB or Xero, so no further admin work is required before you invoice your clients.

This can be updated or changed over time as required.

It’s also possible to track your staff’s work hours and timesheets using CorePlan and import them directly into your accounting system.

CorePlan automatically records your drilling teams’ rig hours with every plod recording. If you need to record more than rig hours, the staff management add-on makes it easy to record additional timesheet information like yard time, travel time or sick days using the timesheet function on the app. The add-on also helps you calculate performance bonuses if you need to do so.

If you’re using a different type of accounting package, our team can work with you to create a solution using .csv import/export functionality.

Analytics

CorePlan’s native dashboard analytics provide you with essential data breakdowns, so you can gain an understanding of your performance at a glance.

You can view your performance by project or across the entire organisation and create your own dashboard by starring your favourite charts.

It’s quick and easy to measure your drill production performance by rig and by shift and rig utilisation breakdown from within the global dashboard. If you’re using CorePlan Forms you can also see your lead and lag indicators, plus a safety dashboard, within your web portal.

Some drilling professionals like to run their own additional custom reports using programs like Power BI, Periscope or Excel. This can be done easily using the .csv export option or through our API if you’re an Enterprise level customer.

Exploration software

If you’re drilling for an exploration company and need to share progress data with your clients, CorePlan makes it really easy for you to collaborate.

Regardless of the system your explorers are using, you have a few options to choose from depending on the requirements of your client.

You can share .csv files with your clients that they can import directly into their own software package, or invite them to their own client portal that gives them access to the data as well as approval/rejection tools that trigger alerts in your CorePlan account to advise you of next steps.

If your clients are using CorePlan Exploration Hub, it’s even easier to work together using CorePlan Connect. This handy feature links up your contracts and seamlessly pushes drill plod data between each company after supervisor sign off. As a Drilling Supervisor, you’ll get an alert when your client approves or rejects the plod and can escalate to invoicing or modification.

Personnel

CorePlan’s open API makes it easy to associate your operations data with your employee data.

For example, if you store your employee data in software like Pronto, it’s possible to configure the platforms to match up your drillers to CorePlan user profiles using SQL/sequel.

This means you can use your CorePlan timesheet data to populate fields in Pronto without having to import or export data manually.

Tl;dr?

The integration options using CorePlan are almost limitless!

It’s possible to easily share CorePlan data with just about any software that allows you to import .csv files.

If you have an intermediate to advanced understanding of software, our open API is available to our professional and enterprise-level customers to create their own communication channels with minimal manual handling of data.
